Sex and Pregnancy

It isn’t better or worse– it’s just different!

Sometimes the transition into parenthood can be very difficult. This is a huge life event! The body goes through incredible changes from the inside out. The shifting role of being a lover to a parent and co-parent, to becoming both a lover and co-parent is new, frustrating, exciting, exhausting, scary!  But as long as sex isn’t emotionally, psychologically, or physically painful, it is normal.  You are normal!  Congratulations! (If you are experiencing pain, we can help connect you to the right people who specialize in pain during sex).

But it doesn’t have to mean your sex life is over or your partnership(s) is doomed.  That’s why I, Tynan Rhea, offer Sexual Health Coaching.  To help facilitate individuals and families feel sexy and sensual! Whether your heterosexual, polyamorous, LGBTQ, monogamous, disabled, single, married, divorced– I’m happy to see you.

I also give talks and workshops within the GTA community– if you are an organization, business, parent meet-up group, or any other form of people banding together and are interested in booking a workshop with me, please contact me at the e-mail address below.  To get the details of the next workshop, sign-up for our quarterly newsletter on the homepage!

I offer in person, (in an office or your home) Skype or phone sessions. It is important for you to find a space that you are comfortable in.

Joint Sessions with Sondra (Couples and Family Counsellor)
The transition into parenthood puts a unique strain on partner’s and individual’s relationships. While exploring ways to adjust to the transition into parenthood in one’s sex life, it may become important to address underlying patterns and behaviours present in the relationship outside of the sex lives of the individuals involved in order to get your sexy groove back.

The initial 30-minute consultation session is FREE of charge in order to give you the opportunity ask any questions you may have, and to get a feel for whether or not my approach is the right fit for you.  Subsequent sessions are normally one hour in length, and the standard fee is $95.00 per session. A sliding scale fee is available. NOTE: sliding scale sessions are only available for in-home or Skype sessions.

Come As You Are: the surprising new science that will transform your sex life by Emily Nagoski, Ph. D.
The totally scientific but easy-to-read (and dare I say fun!) guide to understanding sexuality and how we work. Everyone to have to read this book, it really is that good! It is focused on cis-gendered women and is thus written, but I found a lot of the text applicable to all genders.

Sex After Baby: why there is none by Kathleen Hamilton
Autobiographical book told by a monogamous, cis-gendered female (I think! I’m not 100% her gender identity), new mom in a heterosexual relationship about all her struggles with her changing sexuality in pregnancy.

Women’s Anatomy of Arousal: secret maps to buried pleasure by Sheri Winston, CNM, RN, BSN, LMT
Perfect for the woman (or partner of a woman) who is looking to honour the Goddess within! Extensive explanations of the anatomy behind arousal for women, as well as energetic elements from Eastern philosophies. (Very, very, hetero-normative but some acknowledgement of other orientations and non-monogamousness).

And Baby Makes Three: the six-step plan for preserving marital intimacy and rekindling romance after baby arrives by John M. Gottman, Ph.D. & Julie Schwartz Gottman, Ph.D.
I’ve just started reading this one! So far so good. Hetero-normative, so far, but will update this description when I complete the book! I’m hoping this will be an excellent resource for those looking for a book specifically focused on interpersonal relationship dynamics (academic jargon for: making relationships good).
